Formal Wedding Advice
A formal wedding means that you basically want to conform to the traditional rites of the church. Generally, a formal wedding is larger both in the size of wedding party and the number of guests invited, and features more elaborate decorations, attire, invitations, and reception arrangements, than a semiformal or informal wedding.
If you plan to have a church wedding, you should make an appointment to meet with the church wedding coordinator before you set your wedding date. You should ask the following questions:
-
Do the bride and groom need to be members of the church?
-
Will you be required to attend any premarital counseling or training?
-
Can you be of any denomination?
-
Does the church perform interfaith marriages?
-
Are there any church wedding customs?
-
What dates and times can you choose for your wedding?
-
Are there any other events on that day?
-
What are the hours that you can use the church for rehearsals?
-
What is the maximum amount of seating?
-
Do they offer help with special vows or other liturgical elements you would like to have in your wedding service?
-
Do they have any rental equipment (candelabras, etc.)?
-
Can you use rice, confetti, or birdseed?
-
Are there any restrictions concerning music, flowers, decorations, photography, or videography?
-
Can you use your own minister?
-
Can you use their piano or organ?
-
Do they have a sound system?
-
Can you use candles?
-
What parking is available?
-
What is the cost of the service?
-
What deposits are necessary?
-
Who is responsible for clean up?
-
Are there any other costs or restrictions?
