Truth or Lie Game
Players introduce themselves by telling the group three things about themselves, two must be true and one must be a lie. The group must decide by consensus which statement is not true. The player reveals the fib.
The game continues with the next person until everybody has a turn. This game can have multiple winners by those who succeed in pulling the wool over the audience’s eyes.
Variation/Tips
-
Advise tongue-tied guests to theme the three statements together. It can be about their cooking, driving, work, or talents - whatever they feel comfortable revealing and will make for compelling conversation. For example, a guest might declare: “I totaled my car once. I failed my driver’s test twice. And got ticketed for driving the wrong way on a street once.”
-
The host should go first, giving everybody time to come up with creative introductions.
-
To encourage more clever deception, award a prize to players who are able to hoodwink the others.
-
This variation simplifies the game. Have each player flip a coin before they speak. If it comes up heads, they tell one true fact about themselves, if it comes up tails, they tell a lie. Guests (who do not see the result of the coin toss) have to guess if the information was the truth or a lie.
