The traditional responsibility of the Father of the Bride is to give the groom permission to take your daughter’s hand in marriage. You might be formally entrusting her care to another man but don’t think your duties end with giving your blessing to the engagement. The Father of the Bride has a whole bunch of responsibilities to fulfill on the big day – and a hefty bill to foot at the end of it.
 
Here are your primary responsibilities:
  1. Helps prepare guest list for bride and her family.
  2. Selects attire that complements groom's attire.
  3. Arrives dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  4. Escorts bride down the aisle.
  5. Christian Ceremony: After giving bride away, sits in the left front pew to the right of bride's mother. If divorced, sits in second or third row.
  6. Jewish Ceremony: Stands to the right of bride's mother during the ceremony. May stand beneath the chuppah during the ceremony, along with the bride and groom and honor attendants.
  7. Escorts bride's mother after bridesmaids and groomsmen during the recessional.
  8. Can witness the signing of the marriage certificate.
  9. Stands to the left of bride's mother in the receiving line (optional).
  10. Sits to the left of bride's mother at parents' table during reception.
  11. Dances with bride after first dance.
  12. Acts as host at the reception.
