The Elaborate Tradition of Indian Wedding Ceremonies
Indian Weddings are a very important event for the family. The wedding is the great mark of entering into adulthood. The marriage ceremony includes various pre-wedding ceremonies which mostly take place at the bride’s home and a few at the groom’s home. The groom takes his family and friends to the bride’s home for the main ceremony. Where there is a Indian wedding there is a reunion.
Indian weddings are elaborate and huge affairs as well as emotional events. The bride and groom are treated like a queen and a king for the day. The Indian wedding takes place at a particular time of the day which is considered the most auspicious moment for the couple. This is predicted by the Vedic astrologer. The Indian wedding ceremony varies in different regions of India but the major ceremonies are conducted in the basic way as follows:
Ganesh Pooja – Invoking Lord Ganesh Agni Pooja – Evoking the holy fire (core of the Indian wedding ceremony) Kanyadana – Giving away the bride to the groom Sindoor – A red powder is filled in the bride’s hair parted by the groom Mangalsutra – Tying of the holy necklace that is made with black and gold beads – Sign of a married women Sapatapadi – The Seven Holy Steps circling the fire Silarohana – The bride steps on the stone
