Hiring a Wedding Consultant can actually help save you money. They work with preferred vendors that have reputable services. They also know how to read and negotiate contracts to stay within your budget. Vendors may have options, policies, or packages that only an experienced consultant would know to ask about.
Most vendors have standard contracts. It is wise to ask all vendors for a contract and be sure to read over every detail before signing. Contracts legally protect the vendor and the couple from any misunderstandings. Contracts should include the following items:
-
Day, date and time the contract is signed
-
Day, date, time and location of the ceremony and reception
-
Delivery dates, times and locations
-
Complete list of services to be provided, including the number of hours, breaks, etc.
-
The length of their service. When will they start and finish. Be sure the time includes setup and breakdown.
-
Overtime policies and rates
-
The appropriate attire for the vendor
-
The name and contact numbers of the person in charge
-
The bride’s and groom’s name and contact numbers
-
The mother of the bride’s name and contact numbers
-
The wedding consultant’s name and contact numbers
-
Alternative service or merchandise in case of a problem
-
Amount of deposit required and payment schedule
-
Last date to change services or provide final guest count
-
Cancellation and refund policy
Make sure everything agreed upon is written in the contract. A common complaint from many couples is related to something “verbally promised” by a vendor that they did not receive. NEVER give a vendor payment without a signed contract. If you decide not to use that vendor, you could lose your money.
