Wedding Date

July is usually a popular month to get married. But this year more than 38,000 couples all over the world selected July 7, 2007 as their wedding date. Many people believed that this unique day would ensure that luck will remain on their side throughout their marriage.

Since ancient times, the number 7 was considered special by most all cultures and in many fields such as: Religion, Ethics, Mathematics, Spiritualism, Numerology, Geography, Astrology and Philosophy. 7 is the sacred number of perfection and completion in the Holy Bible. God created everything in 7 days. The Lord’s Prayer has 7 petitions. There are 7 heavenly virtues. The 7th heaven represents a state of extreme happiness and bliss. If you’re a gambler, 777 is the Ultimate Jackpot!

This special date stimulated many great wedding themes.
  • July 7th fell on a Saturday close to The 4th of July holiday. A long weekend is great for out-of-town guests and destination weddings.
  • There were backyard barbeque weddings with sparklers as favors and fireworks at the end of the reception.
  • Favors and decorations with luck related items such as: 777, good luck charms, horse shoes, 4 leaf clovers, rainbows, stars, and coins minted in a year ending in 7.
  • "Las Vegas night" theme receptions with "Lucky in Love" invitations and programs designed like lottery tickets. This type of theme is only good if guests are not against gambling.
There were also some “unlucky” consequences for couples that selected this once-in-a-lifetime date. Many wedding professionals and venues were booked at least two years in advance. Due to the high demand for this unique date, many fees were nearly double their standard price. Couples were making decisions based on superstition and luck instead of logic.

Wedding plans should be based on personal preferences, not marketing hype. A wedding is a special and sacred occasion. It should be unique and memorable for the couple regardless of the date or theme. Remember that the wedding is just a one day event. Marriage is meant for a lifetime and requires a lot more than luck. A long-lasting marriage takes a lot of commitment, communication, compromise and effort - lucky wedding date or not.
