Selecting Your Wedding Date
There are some things you may want to take into consideration when you are selecting your wedding date. Although the vast majority of weddings are held on a Saturday evening in either Summer or Fall there is no requirement to stick to this day or time of year. In fact, weddings held on a day other than a Saturday evening - and those held in off-season months - will be less expensive and easier to plan. Exceptions to these are weddings held at Christmas, New Year’s Eve or on Valentine’s Day (which is an extremely popular time to get married.)
Another thing you will need to take into consideration is that a number of venues and wedding professional can be booked up to one year (and sometimes even more) in advance. Accordingly, it is helpful to have at least a full year to plan the wedding if a popular venue is desired. Some additional things you should keep in mind before booking a date are:
-
Holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc., because travel will likely be overpriced and difficult for some guests during these times of the year.
-
Family commitments such as graduations, birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, other weddings, etc.
-
Events (annual, special, or major sporting events) that take place in the area of the wedding. It is ideal to avoid planning the wedding during these times because chances are accommodations will be difficult to obtain and more expensive than normal.
-
Religious restrictions (if applicable) that may rule out certain wedding days.
-
What the weather might be like during the time of year you desire.
